We all have a favorite stitching spot, our stitching “nest” where we settle down to enjoy our current project with our favorite stitching tools near at hand.  But what should we bring to a meeting or a workshop? What would be helpful at a seminar? Are there any extra tools we should keep in our nest?

Nest Tools:  These can change based on our current project, so here are some suggestions that you can rotate in or out of your favorite spot as needed. Most of this should fit in a basket or box. Check some of the wooden scissor/tool blocks that are on the market, or invest in a nice wooden box. Consider a jewelry box. You can also have separate baskets for different stitching, like one for counted linen work and another for canvas work.

Workshop Tools: For those bigger all-day events. If you’re going to a seminar with different classes, remember to bring appropriate tools for each class. Also, if you’re spending the night in a hotel, consider bringing better lighting for your room (some people bring brighter bulbs for the hotel lamps or a plug-in lamp). Stitching around the hotel is also popular, so pack everything in a bag that you can carry around with you. And don’t forget to leave room for you new projects in your suitcase.

If you like a technique that needs special tools, make up a box just for that. A special box for your gold work supplies or beading supplies mean that everything is in one place. Use tins or plastic boxes but LABEL IT CLEARLY ON THE OUTSIDE SO YOU CAN EASILY IDENTIFY IT.
